Why are you doing this?
We, like many of you out there, have had some heart-ache in our lives. With limited resources and limited time, it's hard to pick a cause to wrap your arms around, as there are so many good ones. Chaz Shultz embraced the Shriners and their Children's Hospital years ago. He has cajoled us for years to bring him our can tabs - and we have. Now as Thirsty Lizards, we ask that you do too. We Lizards are the conduit and extention of what Chaz started long ago. And finally, it's kids that need help and this is an organization that is helping them. We didn't need much more reason than that.

What do you get from this?
Not even a pennyThe same thing you do - a good feeling in the pit of our little bellies (ok some of our bellies are not that little - just gives us more room for a bigger feeling). Now for the money statement: WE DON'T MAKE A DIME - NOT EVEN A PENNY. We never have - never will. This is our way of giving back.

Can't we do this on our own?
Sure you can - but why would you? We have the can tab collection machine, delivery methods, and related materials. Plus, when you do it thru us, you get our unending thanks, mention on our web site, possible photo ops, and you have the extra good feeling of being part of something bigger. We all want to be part of something bigger - no?

How can I help?
Can Tab FlyerLet us count the ways ... (ok - we don't have time to count them now) but there are so many ways - we listed some on our "How You Can Help" page. Whether you are a kid and running a program in your school, cafeteria, sports team, or as a school or neighborhood project; or a little older kid and you are running a program in your college, dorm room, kegger (ok maybe not a kegger); or an adult working your neighbors, social clubs, work cafeteria, etc. - any place that can tabs are pulled - is a prime place for putting up one of our signs and a plastic baggie. (I wanted to make that last sentence longer but I ran out of breath when reading it out loud). You'll be amazed at how many people contribute and how fast your collection will grow.

Ok, we've collected them - now what?
Excellent! Now all you have to do is find a Thirsty Lizard or bring them to one of our collection points. Click here to find a dropoff location.

We've checked your list and we're not near you - what do we do?
That's an excellent question. We are still working on a good answer. Our short (and admittedly not a good) answer is to ship them from work (your boss supports your community charity efforts - right?) to:
Thirsty Lizards- c/o Malin Zergiebel
86 Ironworks Hill Road
Brookfield, CT 06804
Be sure to include photos and a note about how you did it. Better yet, email us all about it.

Who the hell is Chaz?
ChazCharlie "Chaz" Shultz is a son, brother, husband, father, Vietnam vet and long time employee of the phone company - and more importantly, plays a mean guitar and has a smile and heart bigger than Chicago. Chaz is truly one of those "one in a million" type people. Years ago, before the Thirsty Lizards came together, Chaz had us dutifully saving our can tabs all year long. We would bring them to Grey Fox and deliver them to him. He never saw a can tab that didn't bring a tear to his eye. He would always say, "one more tab for the kids is more than they had yesterday." Beware: if you ever meet Chaz - brace yourself for a bear hug from a teddy bear of a man.

Thanks for helping us to help the kids.

Shriners Hospital for Children logoShriners Hospitals for Children in Springfield and Boston have been collecting pull-tabs or “pop-tops” from beverage cans for more than 16 years, recycling them, and putting the money toward programs that directly benefit children. Since its inception, about a half-million pounds of aluminum tabs have been collected and recycled.
